The University of South Wales (USW) is one of the largest universities in the UK, offering students excellent opportunities and prospects. With campuses throughout south Wales, in Pontypridd, Cardiff and Newport, students can enjoy city life, stunning beaches and breath-taking countryside.
USW Newport is based in the heart of the city centre, USW Cardiff is home to creative industries students and USW Pontypridd is made up of two sites: Treforest and Glyntaff.
Students across each location enjoy a busy Students’ Union, with plenty of sports teams, clubs and societies to choose from. There are also Halls of Residence available at each location.
There’s plenty of support on offer, from a Careers and Employability Service to a Student Money Advice Team. Students also have access to services including, Advice Zones and libraries on each campus, a Wellbeing Service and Disability Service.
Employability is at the heart of the university, it is part of the curriculum, with teaching informed by what happens in the real-world. The university offers support through a Careers and Employability Service. The service helps with all stages of the job hunt, from interview skills to filling in a job application. Students can find out about job vacancies, career workshops and networking events, get updates on work placements, or search the university’s employer directory for opportunities.
The university works with employers across all industry sectors to link students with opportunities. Students can take part in the Grad Edge Award, which helps build job related skills throughout their degree and undertake career related work experience. There is even the opportunity to discuss and develop business ideas through Student Enterprise.
The courses aim to give students first hand practical experience to prepare for the workplace. A range of subject areas are on offer, from maths, sport and nursing to engineering, business and fashion. Students gain essential skills by using industry-standard equipment, from a Moot Courtroom and Clinical Simulation Centre, to TV studios, a Crime Scene House and impressive aerospace facilities.
The recent extension to USW Cardiff includes dance and drama spaces, new design and photographic studios, amazing fashion facilities and open creative spaces on all floors for collaborative working.
With a library on each campus, students can access a range of services and resources. There are different types of study spaces, from social to silent, as well as access to books, journals, PCs and Wi-Fi.
For sport enthusiasts, there are over 65 teams that compete in the BUCS league, ranging from tennis and mountain biking, to golf, surfing and rugby. USW Sport has some of the most impressive facilities in the UK. USW Sport Park is one of the best university sport coaching and training venues in the country. For those who want to keep fit, the Sport Centre at USW Pontypridd has a gym, huge main hall, free weights room, squash courts and more.
