From secret hearings to super injunctions, journalists, bloggers and people on social media can face strict rules about what they are allowed to report from court cases. Sometimes these rules mean the public never learns the full story behind crimes, legal disputes or other serious issues.
But if people cannot see how justice is carried out, can we really be sure that justice has been done? In this Real World Lecture, we will explore the idea of open justice, why reporting restrictions exist, and whether they still make sense in an age of social media and instant news.
