Full event details

Wednesday 4th March, 9:30am - 3pm

Built around the theme of World Book Day, the event offers a taste of university study through a range of engaging, hands-on workshops led by academic staff. Students will explore how stories, literature and debate shape learning, childhood and education, all in a fun, creative and thought-provoking environment.

What to Expect

Primary Education – Two Sides to Every Story

Revisit traditional tales and fairytales from new perspectives, exploring missing voices, alternative endings, the power of storytelling in the classroom and its role in inspiring young readers.

Childhood Studies – Reading Between the Lines

Discover the hidden complexity of picture books and how children make meaning through gaps, silences and visual storytelling. Students will consider children as active meaning-makers and reflect on what these narrative techniques reveal about literacy, power and childhood.

Education Studies – The Magic of Educational

Use the world of Harry Potter to explore key debates in education, including equity, assessment, wellbeing and the purpose of schooling. Drawing parallels between Hogwarts and real-world education systems, students will be encouraged to think critically about policy, pedagogy and identity in education today.

Who Can Attend?

Open to Year 12 and Year 13 students considering undergraduate teacher training or degrees in Primary Education, SEND, Education Studies or Childhood Studies. The event supports informed decision-making and offers an authentic insight into studying education at university. We will accept school and college group bookings as well as individual registrations.

Every journey into education begins with a story — join us to explore how stories shape learning, childhood and the classroom.
