Out-of-Body Experiences (OBE) and Near-Death Experiences (NDE) are specific instances where a person is apparently able to see and experience the world from a location outside of their physical body. Some people understand these phenomena as evidence of the existence of a soul - a consciousness separate from the brain - and possibly an afterlife. In this session, we will explore the cultural contexts of these beliefs, consider the evidence relating to the soul, and neurological, cognitive, and psychological theories relating to understand the phenomena of OBEs and NDEs.
