Can a tweet or retweet be a basis for a defamatory action? This is an important question, given the current widespread use of different social media platforms. Not all tweets are defamatory but the trick is to know which ones potentially constitute defamation. This session introduces the law of defamation and examines the law's main elements that protect peoples' reputation.

The Discover Programme consists of subject-specific lectures and workshops aimed at Year 12 or Year 1 college students, delivered by academics that teach at the University.

These sessions are designed to both complement the curriculum and introduce new subject areas.
