Time: 10.30am – 11.30am
Speaker: Dr Deirdre Osborne and Dr Carole Sweeney

This session delivered by Goldsmiths University of London will be split into two segments:
'Reader, I married Him': Gender, Power and Patriarchy. Reading two extracts from novels separated by over 100 years, Dr Carole Sweeney will ask you to do a close textual reading engaging with questions of girls' and women's freedom outside of marriage and the domestic space.
'The Family Face'. Two poems separated by a century (1917, 2017) offer us distinct ideas about how we know who we are and the ties that bind. Dr Deirdre Osborne will ask you to consider what secrets are revealed across the generations and what gets passed on in unexpected ways that foregrounds mothers, race and inheritances.
