22-year-old Private Benjamin Hart served in the Suffolk Regiment during the First World War. In February 1917, he was shot for desertion. During this session, we examine the primary sources from his trial to ascertain the facts and then ask if it is possible to judge the morality of military capital punishment over 100 years ago.
