Full event details

This webinar is hosted by Jon Cheek, the Founder and Director of UniTasterDays. Guidance is provided for students to help them make good choices when considering university. The guest speakers for this event are Dr Irina Gokh, a Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management at De Montfort University and Craig Coutinho, a Student Recruitment and Outreach Officer at Pearson College London.

An insight into studying business at university
Irina looks at what studying business at university entails. She talks about how you can learn about business’s across different sectors, how they operate and how to set up your own business.

On a international business degree you can learn how business’s operate across borders and how they work in an increasingly complex, global economy. Irina explains what a firm is in business and how it is shaped by changing environments such as politics, finance and technology. She goes on to talk about the modules you can study on this degree and touches on the difference between a local firm and multinational firm. Finally, she looks at the range of assessment methods on this course, placement opportunities and shares some top tips for starting university.

What to expect on a business course
Craig talks about the skills employers look for in graduates and how you can develop these at university. He speaks about what a business management course looks like; usually a three-year degree where you are taught by industry-experienced tutors, with the opportunity to specialise in your chosen area after the first year.

This degree is about developing practical skills just as much as it is about learning theoretical knowledge, explains Craig. He goes on to talk about the variety of compulsory and optional modules you will complete in each year, as well as the independent research project you will complete in the final year of your degree. It is always important to gain some experience at university, and Craig talks about placements and internships to gain industry links useful for after you graduate. Finally, he looks at the skills you develop on a business degree, careers you can pursue and answers frequently asked questions.
