This talk will explore the ways in which the languages we speak shape our use and experience of the internet. Through a series of examples, including Wikipedia and TikTok, students will be encouraged to reflect on the significance of language barriers in digital culture, both for individual web users and for global society. In the final section, we will address the increasing importance and value of developing effective language and translation skills in this rapidly evolving context.
