Literature, Colonialism, Migration

In the period after 1945, literatures in English have been transformed by new writing from countries that were previously part of the British Empire. At the same time, writing by migrants from formerly colonised countries has altered the literary landscape in Britain too. Through readings of poetry by Derek Walcott, this interactive lecture and workshop explores the literary history of colonialism and migration within the British Empire, focusing particularly on those ways in which, in Bill Ashcroft's words "The Empire Writes Back".
