"From Electrons to Thinking Machines"

This year’s Christmas lecture hosted by the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering will take place on Monday 17 December 2012 at our Colchester Campus. Our Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall will come alive with demonstration-packed lectures that will examine the integration of engineering, computer programming and artificial intelligence revealing the current state of play in modern-day robotics.

We are encouraging secondary schools and sixth forms to bring along their students to this exciting event and compare the fantasy of science fiction to the reality of modern-day robotics. Please feel free to extend this invitation to parents and families who would also be most welcome.

The lectures will start at 12pm and consist of three interrelated themes: electronic feedback systems, artificial intelligence and robotic implementation, with hands on demonstrations and impressive audience participation throughout. The event will finish at 3pm.

This initiative is aimed at all age groups and a balanced combination of theory and practice promises a good introduction to the science underpinning this popular area.

A competition with prizes is also in place for those who listen carefully!
