Part 1: What is the internet? A brief history and observations on some recent
developments in the internet world including the overtaking of desktop PCs with mobile devices used for internet browsing. There will also be some discussion about the role of whistleblowers such as Private Manning, Julian Assange and Edward Snowden and an overview of the implications of modern communications technologies for democracy.
