Full event details

This lecture is one of a series of lectures held each year, which help raise the profile of our Professors and also offer an opportunity for work and research in their specialist field to be made available to a wide and varied audience.

Professor Brett, Director of Brunel Institute for Bioengineering, will deliver his Inaugural Lecture entitled “A touch of robots in surgery” on Tuesday 3 December in the Eastern Gateway Building Auditorium here at Brunel.

Lecture Abstract

Over the past two decades engineers and clinician teams have shown how robotics can be applied in surgery with benefit to patient outcome. This has been a learning process and in most cases surgical robots have been quite extensive systems. For most procedures surgical robots need to develop as small devices. Professor Brett will be building on the success to date by showing how further innovation can introduce a much finer touch and open a promising future for this technology.

A short ceremony will be held just prior to the lecture when the University’s Chancellor, Sir Richard Sykes, will confer the honorary degree of Doctor of Science upon Professor Dame Sally Davies, the Government’s Chief Medical Officer.

The evening will start promptly at 5.30pm and will end at approximately 7.15pm, after which light refreshments will be available.
