“The Emperor of all childhood maladies: a brief biography of neuroblastoma”
There are few human conditions evoking the same sense of despair and terror such as cancer in a small child. However, in the past two decades significant progress has been made in the understanding of tumourigenesis and we are approaching a time in which most cancers will be cured or reduced to a chronic condition.
Despite the optimism raised by discoveries on the molecules and signalling pathways at the base of neoplastic transformation, childhood cancers still pose a formidable challenge to scientists and clinicians. In his inaugural lecture Professor Sala will present the most recent advances in the molecular characterisation and treatment of neuroblastoma, a paediatric tumour of the peripheral nervous system.
The lecture will be followed by light refreshments.
