The Does Transport Need Planning (DTNP) project is run annually by Aston University and Transport for London (TfL) graduates with the aim of encouraging young people to consider a career in transport.

Students will work in teams of 5 to asses a location in London currently under consideration for transport improvements and will prioritise schemes based on the needs of stakeholders, agree on an improvement programme and justify their decisions.

The competition consists of two face to face events six weeks apart; day one will take place at Aston University on Wednesday 10th October. Day two will take place at the London Transport Museum on Friday 30th November. Attendance at both events is essential for all teams.

Each team will create a presentation and transport improvement plan which they will deliver to a judging panel at the London Transport Museum. On day one students will participate in workshops led by academics from Aston University's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Transport for London staff, providing them with the necessary background knowledge and skills. Teams will then have 6 weeks to finalise their plans, with email support available from Aston University and the TfL mentor. On day two, each team will present to the judging panel and prizes will be awarded to the winning team. The day will include an excellent opportunity to explore the London Transport Museum.

The event is open to gifted and talented students in Years 10 and schools are invited to enter one team of five pupils. Participation in the event is free and lunch will be provided at both events.
Please note: booking is essential. The closing date for applications is Friday 21st September and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please contact Angela Morris at [email protected] to request a copy of the application form.
