This session includes two mini-lectures about portraiture, contrasting Italian Renaissance paintings with twentieth-century photographs in order to highlight the variety of periods, media and approaches covered by our BA programme. These will be followed by a Q&A session with a discussion of what it is like to study the History of Art at Birkbeck.

The sessions are aimed at those looking to study at undergraduate level for the first time and wanting an insight into what it would be like to study a particular subject area at Birkbeck, University of London.

Each session is designed to give students a better understanding of a specific subject area being taught at Birkbeck and to outline some of the academic skills required to study at a university level. Please note: not all sessions are directly linked to current school curriculum study; outlines of each session will be available in advance.
