About the Lecture
Throughout our lifetime our musculoskeletal system undergoes incredible changes as we grow and age, but exercise has the potential to significantly alter the structural, mechanical and functional characteristics of bones, muscles and tendons. This plasticity, if developed, can affect performance across a range of activities and even help to prevent injuries in athletes or falls in old age.
Professor Baltzopoulos will present an overview of our research on the physiological and mechanical factors that influence movement in a range of populations, showing also how we can exploit muscle mechanics to use ‘exercise as medicine’ for combating systemic inflammation and frailty in old age.
