We are delighted to invite you and your Level 3 Psychology students to our Criminology & Sociology Subject Conference. This free conference is designed to supplement your students’ current or future studies by focusing on two areas of specialism at Liverpool Hope University.
These conferences will be taking place on:

From 2pm – 4.30pm at our Hope Park Campus, Hope Park, Liverpool, L16 9JD.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
1.30pm – 2pm Arrival at Hope. The Conference will begin promptly at 2pm.
2pm – 2.15pm Welcome to Liverpool Hope and our Social Science courses.
2.15pm – 3.15pm Criminology: A Prison System in Crisis
Recent comments by the Justice Secretary Chris Grayling have denied that England and Wales’s prison system is in a state of crisis despite a spate of recent reports highlighting increases in levels of violence and self-inflicted deaths, cuts to staff numbers and a series of damning inspections. This talk will assess the facts and argue for a radical change to the system. There will also be a particular focus on the situation for women prisoners.
3.15pm – 4.15pm Sociology: 'What social class are you?' Exploring Class in 21st Century Britain
In this session students will learn about wider changes in British society affecting the nature of social class. For example, is social class still relevant in 21st British society? If so, how is it measured and what do changes in employment patterns and the types of jobs people are engaged in today mean for the class structure of British society? These issues, and many others, will provide the focus for this session. Please bring along your smart phone, tablet device or laptop computer if you have one, as the session will incorporate some interactive activities designed to stimulate your thinking and engagement with the material covered.
