Our Fine and Applied Art Department are offering a subject conference for AS/A2 Level students to provide two lectures and support their studies of Art & Design History.

The format of the day is as follows:

1.30pm - 2pm
Arrival on campus, registration and complimentary refreshments

2pm - 2.15pm
Welcome to Liverpool Hope University and the Fine and Applied Art Department

2.15pm - 3pm
Studying Art and Design History at Degree Level. By Dr Kathrin Wagner.

This session will look at various aspects relevant to prospective students such as studying the discipline itself, studying how museums and galleries work, Professional Practice, assignments and finally, what job opportunities a student with an Art and Design History degree has.

3pm - 3.15pm
Break

3.15pm - 4pm
Early Twentieth Century Art – European Avant-Gardes. By Dr Amelia Yeates.

This lecture will consider the early twentieth century European avant-garde movements and consider their relation to the key idea of “expression”. Taking the manifestos of these movements as a starting point, the lecture will explore key ideas relating to the early-twentieth century avant-garde, such as primitivism and the role of the artist.
