The guest speaker for this event is Jacoob Kimmie, the Outreach Practitioner at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. An introduction to studying & working within fashion with the University of the Arts London
Jacoob speaks about what it is like to study and work in the fashion industry by introducing a variety of jobs in the four main disciplines: fashion design, technical fashion, fashion textiles and fashion media, business and communication.
The type of job roles he goes into detail about are: creative director, shoe designer, pattern maker, garment technician, seamstress, pleater, embroiderer, photography and stylist.
Jacoob explains what type of degrees you can study at university depending on which of the four disciplines you are interested in. He goes on to talk about what to expect from a fashion course and what you will study. Units you may study include fashion theory, portfolio creation and practical work. As an undergraduate student you could also have the opportunity to visit exhibitions (fashion shows) and partake in graduate fashion week, explains Jacoob. Finally, he provides tips on your application and what you should do at interviews. Session summary from Rubaya Zaman, a final year English Literature student at the University of Birmingham.
