This webinar is hosted by Jon Cheek, the Founder and Director of UniTasterDays. Guidance is provided for students to help them make good choices when considering university. The guest speaker for this event is Colin Baker, a lecturer in Professional Policing at the University of Law. Undergraduate policing degree
Colin speaks about the pre-join degree for the police constable role in the UK. This is a professional and academic knowledge-based degree that is beneficial before you apply to join a police force.
Colin talks about the modules you will learn on this course such as the role of the police constable, how policing has evolved and digital policing. There are also optional modules you can take which go into different areas depending on the field you wish to specialise in.
Even though this is a BSc academic degree, it is important you experience practical training, explains Colin and he highlights the range of ways students are able to practice this. He portrays potential scenarios in everyday life, how you should respond to them as a police officer and mentions the requirements of practice you should complete when stopping and searching people. Finally, Colin speaks about why this degree will make you an ideal candidate when applying to join a police force. Session summary from Rubaya Zaman, a final year English Literature student at the University of Birmingham.
