18 August 2020 at 12:00
This webinar is hosted by Jon Cheek, the Founder and Director of UniTasterDays. Guidance is provided for students to help them make good choices when considering university. The guest speaker for this event is Laura Davies, the Student Recruitment Officer at the University of South Wales.Everything you need to know about degree apprenticeships
Laura talks about what degree apprenticeships are as an alternative route into higher education. This pathway is different to the traditional degree programme and must include 20% off the job training.
Depending on which type of course you choose, the duration of the degree apprenticeship ranges from 3-6 years. Laura explains how tuitions fees are paid to the university and who this cost is covered by.
Due to the fact that this is not a conventional course, students who choose to undertake this type of programme are not entitled to maintenance loan, explains Laura. She goes on to describe what subject areas degree apprenticeships are available in, the application process and the requirements to study on the course.
There are many benefits to this type of course and this is explored in the session. Laura touches on what companies offer degree apprenticeships, how to apply on UCAS and shares websites to find out more specific information. Finally, she shares some application tips and the different courses on offer at the University of South Wales. Session summary from Rubaya Zaman, a final year English Literature student at the University of Birmingham.
