Healthcare Residential UniExperience Dates:
Monday 1 July to Friday 12 July 2013
The five day residential UniExperience (Summer School) is aimed at young people in Year 11 who have an interest in pursuing a career within the health sector, have an interest in science or who are unsure of their career choice, but would like more information on these careers. The careers covered will include Nursing, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Midwifery, Paramedicine, Operating Department Practice and Occupational Therapy, but there will be other elements of use to any health career.
Pupils who are taking Science qualifications will find it especially useful, as many of the above courses require sciences. Those taking Health and Social Care courses will also be welcomed. Sessions will be informative and practical, with input from lecturers as well as current students. There will be plenty of hands-on activities and the opportunity to attend some ‘lecture style’ sessions. This is an opportunity for interested pupils to find out more about the courses available, as well as receiving help with the application process and more information on various aspects of student life, including the financial implications.
Each day will run from approximately 10am – 4pm, and all meals, refreshments, evening activities and accommodation will be provided free of charge. Transport to and from the University will be arranged. Pupils will have to commit to all five days of the Summer School.
The UniExperience is open to students from the South West, with priority being given to students from Cornwall and Devon. To be eligible to apply the applicants must still be in full time education, in Year 11 (or equivalent), have the desire to go onto higher education, be enthusiastic about finding out more about Higher Education, and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- No parental experience of Higher Education;
- Eligible for free school meals;
- In care;
- Have a disability;
- Receive the 16-19 bursary;
- Household income of £30,000 or under.
The deadline for applications is 5th April 2013.
