Full event details

The dismantlement of the Inca Empire was the product of the Western assimilation of the native Andeans and the territorial conquest of the Americas by the Spanish. After every region the Spaniards claimed for their monarchy, they sent missionaries to preach the word of God. Every Peruvian city has their Plaza de Armas with their Cathedral Basilicas dating back to the Spanish conquest. This integration of Western religion into Peruvian culture was dominated by slavery, violence, and often death. Missionaries were tasked with converting the populations native to the lands that the Spanish had conquered. The process of proselytism has given researchers an insight into the gruesome methods of conversion, but it has equally shown that there were some who dedicated their lives to the preservation of native rites and rituals, and even questioned the alignment of the Church with the colonial mission.
