Being able to speak another language is becoming more sought after in today’s society. Therefore, we have created a talk that informs students about the reasons for learning a language, possible career opportunities and the variety of ways they can actively engage with languages, while in school and through HE.
This workshop will inform students about the many reasons and motivations to learn a foreign language, or several! It will be demonstrated through statistics and research about the growing importance of learning an additional language following Brexit and the rich cultural diversity of the UK and around the world. Potential Higher Education pathways will be explained to the students, whether this be taking a language at degree level, studied alongside another subject or as an extra-curricular activity, the possibilities are numerous. There are also many ways students can get involved with languages now, while at school and independently, through summer schools, national competitions, and work abroad schemes. The talk will also be interactive for the students, as what better way to start learning a language than just giving it a go!
