Join us for an on-campus Discovery Day and find out more about the exciting range of careers within the construction sector, including Architecture, Civil Engineering and Quantity surveying. Students will get the chance to see our new £120m Springfield Campus as well as participate in hands on activities.
This event will take place at the Springfield campus at the University of Wolverhampton. This event is suitable for year 11 and above.
On this day students will split into 3 stands. Each strand will focus on one of the following areas Architecture, Civil Engineering or Quantity surveying.
Below is a draft programme of the day:
9.30am - Arrival and registration
9.45am - Introduction to Architecture and the Built Environment at the University
10.30am - Breakout sessions:
Session 1 - Architecture: (Tour of 'IGLOO' a shared immersive space – next generation of High-Tech in the Construction Industry
Session 2 - Civil Engineering: (Built a tetrahedron (a triangular-based pyramid) using only dowels and elastic bands. This will create an impressive 4x4x4m structure)
Session 3 - Quantity surveyor: (Workshop providing students with an understanding of the role of QS in digital construction)
11.30am - Breakout sessions:
Session 1 - Architecture: (Design and 3-d model an athlete's room for the Commonwealth Games)
Session 2 - Civil Engineering: (Introduction to concrete and beam testing)
Session 3 - Quantity surveyor: (Providing students with an understanding of the role of QS in project management)
12.30 - 13.15 - LUNCH
13.15 - Breakout sessions:
Session 1 - Architecture: (Explore Wolverhampton’s skyline from a different perspective and how we can make it more green)
Session 2 - Civil Engineering: (workshop - students will be introduced to flow in open channels and flow measurements)
Session 3 - Quantity surveyor: (Providing students with an understanding of the role of QS in sustainable construction).
