Full event details

The full context/introduction to this live and interactive discussion is provided by Aberystwyth in a Headliner recorded here (https://www.channeltalent.co.uk/event/film-television-media-documentary-the-creative-treatment-of-actuality-university-tutorial-with-dr-jamie-medhurst-from-aberystwyth-university/) which offers insights into the key academic research and debate related to this fascinating topic. This recording can be watched as a class activity or independently in preparation for the discussion.

John Grierson, the founder of the British Documentary Movement of the 1930s, once described documentary film as ‘the creative treatment of actuality’.

In this talk and in the discussion on 18th January, we will ‘unpick’ that statement and will consider various types or modes of documentary, asking whether digital techniques have altered contemporary documentary as a form in any way.

The session aims to deepen students’ understanding of the topic whilst enabling them to access and experience a live online university tutorial.
