Full event details

In this Subject Insights session for English Literature, Dr Nicola Abram will explore black British writer Bernardine Evaristo's 2019 novel Girl, Woman, Other. Winner of the 2019 Booker Prize, this brilliant novel gives voice to twelve different people, in lively prose that looks more like poetry. We will think about ideas of identity and representation, and we will look back at Evaristo's early career in theatre to trace the history of her distinctive style. The session will draw on Nicola's research for her prize-winning book Black British Women's Theatre: Intersectionality, Archives, Aesthetics, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2020.

Information for attendees: You will join the webinar without video or audio, and your name will not be seen by other attendees. Any questions you submit will not be seen by other attendees, although we may read them out to answer (your name will remain private). The session is primarily aimed at sixth form and college students, however, all are welcome to attend.
