The Department of History at the University of Winchester invites you and your students to join us in commemorating and reflecting on Holocaust Memorial Day on 26th January 2022, during an afternoon of short ‘lightning’ lectures, panel discussion and Q&A and workshop activities.
Holocaust Memory: One Day in the Future
Wednesday 26th January 2022 (Holocaust Memorial Day)
These activities are designed for those currently studying in Sixth Form or in Year 11.
The session will be facilitated by experts in the field of Holocaust Memory and Genocide Studies, Dr Emiliano Perra and Dr Emily Stiles, and Dr Robert Houghton, an historian and historical advisor for Crusader Kings II and Crusader Kings III.
Those attending will explore the issue of Holocaust memory, considering questions such as: how has the Holocaust been represented in popular culture today, such as in games, television, film and museums? What role do such representations play in modern day society? What is the future of Holocaust representation? In asking these questions, students will get a chance to think about the role of history in the modern day and the issues and difficulties in commemorating and memorializing traumatic events such as the Holocaust.
