Full event details

Sepsis is the systemic inflammatory response to infection, responsible for more than 40,000 deaths in the UK alone each year, many of which are attributed to heart failure. In the session you will develop a better understanding of how the heart works and how sepsis can contribute to whole heart cardiac dysfunction. We shall also explore the heart on a cellular level, including the important role of calcium ions and ion transport in the regulation of heart contraction and relaxation in health, and shall consider how inflammatory molecules can alter this process contributing to heart failure.

This session lasts between 60-90 minutes. The main session is preceded by a welcome presentation and ends with a Q&A where students are free to ask questions. It is aimed at year group 12 and 13 and is delivered via MS Teams.
