This lecture will introduce the role of generativity in the offender desistance process. Specifically, it will explore some of the challenges in attempting to encourage behaviour change in repeat offenders and outline a peer support approach to improving outcomes for those who serve time in prison. Data from a sample of violent and sexual offenders serving time in UK prisons will be presented to demonstrate how 'identity change' can be energised through altruistic roles.
