Session time: 16.15-17.15

In this session we will be joined by 2 universities who will begin by exploring the fascinating academic content of their degree programmes in the form of a mini lecture based on one of their undergraduate modules. Each university will then offer an insight into the teaching and learning experience related to these modules and to their Philosophy degrees more generally.

UEA talk details:
"Radical Philosophy"
This talk will introduce you to a first year module at UEA, called Radical Philosophy.
The module focuses on two traditions of thought aiming at the integration of critical reflection and intelligent (social, educational, political) practice. These traditions go back, respectively, to Karl Marx and to American pragmatism. Their goal is to reconstruct ethical norms, economic arrangements and educational institutions for the sake of making social transactions a fruitful basis for individual growth and for the enrichment of common experience. This module invites students to join the philosophers we study in a critical and practical activity, choosing current problems they wish to criticise or tackle, and producing work that goes toward identifying the deep roots of existing social ills and finding ways to alleviate them.

Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures.

Suitable for: Year 12 & 13 students and equivalent studying, or with a possible interest in studying, Philosophy and related disciplines.

The IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered prior to the event.
