Film and TV/American Studies taster lecture: The Hollywood Studio System

From its emergence in the silent period to its breakdown in the 1950s, the Hollywood studio system maintained a commanding presence in the world. This session will look at this system; the strategies through which it maintained dominance in the world; the cinematic features that resulted from these strategies, such as stardom, genre and classic narrative; and the factors that led to its collapse.
