This webinar is hosted by Jon Cheek, the Founder and Director of UniTasterDays. Guidance is provided for students to help them make good choices when considering university. The guest speakers for this event are Professor Richard Harvey, the Academic Director of Admissions at the University of East Anglia and Dr Kulvinder Panesar, a Lecturer in Applied Artificial Intelligence at the University of Bradford.

A guide to studying Artificial intelligence at university - why to consider it?
Artificial intelligence is a fundamentally interdisciplinary subject at university, with a focus on the interrelationships between many topics, explains Richard. He goes on to look at the different kinds of research projects which have been done in this field, and these are the types of topics you will have the chance to explore on this course. Some examples of these are: ethics and the legal issues that arise out of this kind of work, the sociological impacts and the technical areas of artificial intelligence.

Many students wonder what they can go on to do after a degree in this field. Richard looks at the many careers you can pursue across all job sectors. There are over 1,346 courses offered on UCAS and it is very important to do your research as these can differ greatly, explains Richard. Finally, he talks about the benefits of this course and the admissions process.

Richard has also put a short blog post on his website to accompany one aspect of his session.

What to expect on an Artificial intelligence university course?
Kulvinder explains how artificial intelligence is a part of our everyday lives and looks at real-life stories.

The examples Kulvinder show give a sign that artificial intelligence is catching up to human intelligence. She looks artificial intelligence as the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programmes.

There are many areas of this subject that you can cover at university and this is explored in this session. Some of these include natural language processing, computer vision and robotics.

Kulvinder goes on to talk about research that has been conducted at the University of Bradford which has then been applied to real-life scenarios. She looks at what you can expect from the overall course and opportunities you will have to gain industry experience.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways on this degree ranging from essays to exams and presentations. In your final year at university you will be able to complete an independent research project and Kulvinder looks at the kind of topics you can explore. Finally, she touches on the transferable skills you will gain, and careers you can go into with this degree.
