The guest speakers for this event are Paula Hatcliffe, the UK/EU Recruitment Officer at the University of Bradford and Penny Dunne, the Education Liaison Officer at Edge Hill University.
How universities support your future employability
Paula explains what employability skills are, why they are valued by employers and how they are transferable to every job.
She looks at the most useful skills which you can develop whilst at university, even before you start. Paula talks about how you can develop these skills through placements, part-time jobs, internships and community work.
She shares her top tips for finding work outside of your academic studies and where to look for opportunities. The rules regarding part-time work are different for international students and it is important to do your research if you are affected by this.
Paula goes on to speak about what a CV is and how to make your application stand out to recruiters. Finally, she shares resources for finding placement opportunities, and touches on the support you can expect at university with careers and employability.
Enhancing employability at university
Penny explains what employability is and why it is important to start thinking about it now.
One of the ways in which you can enhance your employability at university is through studying abroad. Penny talks about the different study abroad options and why it is beneficial to undertake this opportunity. The choices are international study abroad or Erasmus, and Penny goes on to discuss costing, financial support you are eligible for and how to apply.
As well as this, she talks about the benefits of learning a language at university and explains what a conversion exchange scheme is. Finally, she shares her top tips for enhancing your employability.
