Guidance is provided for students to help them make good choices when considering university. The guest speakers for this event are Sue Gray, a Student Recruitment Assistant at the University of Sunderland and Liam Kelleher, the Education Liaison Officer at Staffordshire University.
Reasons to consider university participation
Sue explains what higher education is, why you should consider pursuing it and the benefits of going to university. She talks about developing essential skills for employment, and the different student experiences you will have the opportunity to participate in when going to university.
There are various routes into higher education and Sue speaks about some of the options available such as full time university, sandwich courses, year abroad and distanced/flexible learning. Finally, she looks at the entry requirements for higher education courses.
The pro’s, con’s and what is next for you
Liam talks about the pro’s of going to university and how this experience will benefit you after you graduate. He also looks at the con’s of going to university, but also shares ways you can come around these disadvantages.
It is important to do your research and Liam speaks about the factors you should take into consideration before choosing the right course for you. He touches on entry requirements, the location of your chosen university and the benefits of open days. Finally, Liam shares valuable things to remember about studying at university.
The live event is for post 16-students. Teachers, careers colleagues and support staff are very welcome to attend as well - for their own CPD purposes.
