The English, History, Politics and International Relations Taster Day will offer real interactive University lectures to show you what it’s actually like to study these degrees at University. For History, the session will give real examples of how historical topics connect to the news and real-world problems. It will show you how the skills you get in history training can be transferred to fun and interesting careers within and outside the historical field. The Politics and International Relations session asks important questions: “Do we get the leaders we deserve?” “Taking back control? – Brexit and globalisation” and more, challenging you to negotiate and use your debating skills. Attending this event is a great way to really feel what it’s like to thrive as a University student at Aston, meeting students, staff and seeing our city-centre campus. The English Taster day will give you an in-depth exposure the worlds of both English Language and English Literature. The English language session will focus on some of the ways that linguistics can be applied to real life contexts such as law and business. Building on actual of A-level topics, it will offer an intriguing exploration of the role of language in society. The English literature session will focus on developing an understanding of the three main literary genres (prose, poetry and drama). We’ll explore how to analyse language closely and how to integrate relevant theoretical ideas to provide new insights into literary texts. Attending this event is a great way to really feel what it’s like to thrive as a University student at Aston, meeting students, staff and seeing our city-centre campus.
