Full event details

The body has an internal clock that controls our basic physiological functions such as eating and sleeping. Almost every aspect of our daily life is rhythmic and our body is programmed to go through specific rhythms every day. If these rhythms are disrupted, for example through shift work, this can lead to severe long-term health problems including obesity and type-2 diabetes. We will discuss the biological mechanism involved in the circadian control of appetite and body weight regulation and how this insight can help us to understand why disruption of our body clock can lead to obesity and how this can be reversed.
