“We Don’t Need No Education” Just Why Do You Go To School? - This session asks the most fundamental and basic question connected to education which is, simply, what is the point of it? Why is most of what we study at school unconnected to real life? Why are certain subjects compulsory? What should schools teach but don’t (if anything)?

What is Criminology? - In this taster session, students will consider three rudimentary questions: What is 'crime'? Why do people commit crime? How should we respond to crime? Using the Grenfell Tower disaster and other similar case examples, we will consider the extent to which the disaster was a 'crime', the different types of crimes that were possibly committed and whether we should broaden the scope of the definition of crime to include social harms committed by the State, crimes committed by the law abiding and so on.

Sessions can be delivered on campus or, if you are local to Keele, in your school/college. All events are subject to staff and space availability. Please specify your topic preference in your request. Talks can be adapted to last for anywhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
