1.15pm-3.15pm 'Show Don't Tell': A Creative Writing Maxim
In this session Dr Eleanor Rees will introduce the creative writing maxim 'Show Don't Tell' and encourage students to craft and shape their creative writing to immerse the reader in story, drama or poetry. In doing so the student will be introduced to the idea of creative writing as a democratic art. Eleanor will offer a short presentation on this theme and then lead a selection of creative writing exercises through which students experience 'practice-as-research'. Students will leave the workshop with a first draft of a short story or poem which demonstrates the rhetorical strategy which underpins all creative writing.
