Materials and engineering have always been seen to play a supporting role to more mainstream fields such as mechanical engineering. This is no longer true and materials science is now driving innovation and has become an enabler for our technologically driven modern society. High rise skyscrapers are not possible without engineered concrete and steels; jumbo jets cannot fly without carbon fibre composites or advanced engineering alloys. In this taster course you not only learn about the science behind the materials but also how to make use of it in the practical manner.
