What is globalisation and why are people protesting against it? This session will examine globalisation as a process, a political project and ‘a state of being.’ It will identify the drivers of globalisation and its beneficiaries, and then reflect on its forms and contradictions – in particular its impacts on people at the margins. A few decades ago some policymakers thought that there was no economic or political alternative, but an array of social forces are now engaged in resistance. Is ‘another world’ necessary and possible?
