We are delighted to invite you and your Level 3 History students to our Subject Conferences hosted by the Department of History and Politics. These free conferences are designed to supplement your students’ current or future studies.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

1.30pm-2pm Arrival at Hope. The Conference will begin promptly at 2pm. Lunch facilities are available if students arrive early.
2pm – 2.15pm Welcome to Liverpool Hope
2.15pm-3.15pm The social and cultural impact of World War One
This session we will examine the varied roles and expectations placed on women and men to support the British war effort including work in munition factories, life in the trenches and systematic plans of resistance by conscientious objectors.
3.15pm-4.15pm The Grand Remonstrance: its origins, significance and consequences
This talk will ask to what extent the Grand Remonstrance of 1641 was a turning point in relations between Charles I and his English Parliament. Why was it drafted and why was it so contentious?
4.15pm – 4.30pm Closing Address and Q & A
