Institution Profile:

Our mission at the University of Huddersfield is to be an inspiring and innovative University of international renown. We’re based right in the town centre and at the heart of the community, and have around 20,000 students studying specialisms across a broad range of subject disciplines, from business, science and engineering, to education and healthcare, to the arts, media, and music.

We are one of the leading universities in the country for the quality of our teaching. We are gold-rated in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and we are joint first in England for the proportion of professionally qualified teaching staff (HESA 2020). In 2017, we won the first Global Teaching Excellence Award, and we’re one of the four leading institutions in the country for National Teaching Fellowships, awards which rate the UK’s best lecturers.

We’re unique in the fact that all of our permanent teaching staff have, or are completing, doctorates. This expertise, along with our teaching credentials, means that our students learn from knowledgeable and well-qualified teachers and academics who are at the forefront of their subject area.

We’re also proud of the fact that all of our students have the opportunity to undertake professional work experience during their studies, and we’re top 15 in the UK for work placements. Our emphasis on degrees that include industry experience means that our students have an advantage in the jobs market. This is why we are top 20 for graduate employment – 97.3% of Huddersfield graduates go on to work or further study within six months (DLHE 2016/17).

To achieve great things at university, top class facilities and resources are essential. That’s why we’ve invested £156m in new buildings and facilities, such as the £30m Barbara Hepworth building. This is an exciting hub of creative studios and technology facilities and the home of art, design and architecture.

These are all part of our drive for teaching and learning excellence, which helps you achieve great things too.
