Humankind is a social species, yet conflict, negativity, criminal behaviours and active
hatred is both experienced and expressed by human beings every day. Within social
psychology we want to know why. One of the things that we are interested in what psychological and/or environmental mechanisms play a role in negative/antisocial
behaviours and attitudes. However, in order to examine this or perpetrators of such
behaviours we have to consider some highly sensitive and taboo topics. Researching
these topics raises a number of ethical issues that need to be considered and in this masterclass we shall cover some of the topics, ethical hurdles and resolutions experienced in this type of research.
