Our Discover Engineering day will allow Year 12 students and other potential applicants who are interested in studying engineering the opportunity to explore the different course options available to them at University.

It will be of particular interest to students of maths and physics, and will offer a fantastic opportunity to learn about the huge diversity of practical courses and careers that these subjects offer access to.

The overall aim for the day to help attendees explore the full range of engineering degree courses on offer, from the most popular to the less well-known, including Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Civil Engineering.

Upon application participants benefiting from this insight and hands-on experience will be able to feel more confident that they have chosen the course that will most suit them.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for students of physics, engineering, chemistry and/or maths to explore the different opportunities available to them at University level though the study of engineering.

Our Discover Engineering day is a perfect chance for students who either already know that they want to study engineering and want to explore the different courses and options available at Manchester, or for those who enjoy studying maths and sciences at A-level and wish to see how these subjects can be combined in an engineering degree.

The day may be of particular interest if you have a flair for problem solving, teamwork and lateral thinking. You may also be interested in the grand, global engineering challenges which are facing the modern world which you can read more about on the NAE Grand Challenges for Engineering website.

This is a series of ten-minute overviews delivered by an academic member of staff to give you an insight into their degree programmes.

Workshop session 1 - These workshops will be delivered by current PhD students. You’ll have the chance to hear from them about the subject in more detail and get hands-on with some practical activities. You’ll also have the chance to quiz them about their subject.
