Institution Profile:

A university to help you shine

The University of Portsmouth gives students the support they need to go beyond what they think is possible. We are dedicated to students’ personal growth and development, offering hands-on learning, informed by research that solves society’s problems. Students can choose from hundreds of courses in the humanities, business and law, creative and cultural industries, technology, science and health. Whether graduating career-ready or taking advantage of discounts for further study, the aim is to set students up for success.

Explore new ways to inspire students

Our recruitment and outreach team works with pupils of all ages throughout the UK. We work with teachers and advisers to support Key Stage 5 students nationally with their university and UCAS applications. Locally, across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, we work with Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils in selected schools to help them realise their aspirations and encourage progression to higher education. Our subject-specific events, bespoke training and conferences aim to help students secure a world class education.

Why Portsmouth?

We are the 21st best university in the UK, according to the Guardian University Guide 2020. We’re rated Gold for teaching excellence. For 13 years in a row, we’ve continued to score above the sector average for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey. And our graduates are career-ready. 97.5% of Portsmouth graduates are in work or higher education six months after graduation (DLHE 2017) making us the number one university in the south east and in the top 10% nationally for graduate progression to employment or further study.

Careers and employability

These results are testimony to the investment we make in our students. Incredible opportunities, pioneering projects and hands-on learning that will help students go far. First-rate placements and research, real-life settings, industry contacts and careers expertise. Teaching that opens eyes and raises games. The highly regarded Careers and Employability Service offers expert, tailored advice to help students shape a bright, bold future - with ongoing support available for 5 years after graduation.
