What are Ecosystem Services? What is Resilience?

Ecosystem services and resilience are key linked concepts in the field of Sustainable Development. Yet values placed on the environment and understandings of resilience and vulnerability vary geographically. Failure to acknowledge and embrace such diversity has implications for the way in which progress towards sustainable development objectives are measured. In this session students will explore their own understandings of resilience and valued ecosystem services, and contrast them with perspectives gathered from subsistence farmers in rural Belize (Central America) and Malawi (sub-Saharan Africa).
