Full event details

This event is part of a free series of professional development events for teachers and careers advisers being funded by the Merseyside Network for Collaborative Outreach. This particular event will focus on helping staff to support students who have an interest in progressing further in performing arts or making performance possible subjects.

The event will run from 6pm – 7.30pm on Wednesday 18th May, taking place at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

Any attendees who would also like to have a look around LIPA are invited to arrive earlier, at 5.15pm, for a short tour.

The evening will include:
• A presentation by Phil Christopher, LIPA’s Director of Higher Education, who will discuss how supporting an applicant towards a vocational performing arts related degree course might be different to an application for more traditional academic courses, and what staff should be aware of.
• A Q&A opportunity with some of our teaching staff where you can find out more about our courses and careers within performing arts.
• The opportunity to find out more about the outreach opportunities that are available to your pupils through our widening participation team.

There is also a performance by our second year Acting students of Voltaire’s Candide taking place on site at 7.30pm. If you would like to see some LIPA students in performing, you are welcome to purchase tickets for this through the Unity Theatre’s box office (http://www.unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk). Unfortunately, as this is in our smaller theatre, we are unable to reserve complementary tickets for this show at this stage.

To book your place, onto this event, please email [email protected], with your name and the name of your school/college. Please also include if you would like to attend a tour of LIPA at 5.15pm and if you have any access requirements that we need to be aware of.

The address of LIPA is: Mount Street, Liverpool, L1 9HF - however, attendees will need to meet at our main reception entrance on Pilgrim Street (just around the corner).
If you are looking to arrive by train, LIPA is about a 10-15 minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street Station or about 10 minutes walk from Liverpool Central. For those driving, we have a small car park on Pilgrim Street where you may be lucky enough to get a space after 5pm. Otherwise there is plenty of pay parking on nearby streets and at the Anglican Cathedral which is opposite LIPA on Upper Duke Street.

If there are other staff at your school who you feel might also be interested in attending or that this particular event might be especially suitable for (including those who teach performing arts, art and design or management/business), please pass on this information to them. Anyone involved in advising students about the opportunities available to them in the future is more than welcome to join us at this event!

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ben Leventhall on 0151 330 3010. In the meantime, we hope to see you on 18 May!
