Full event details

Gene manipulation has led scientists to crack the genetic causes of disease. The hunt is on to develop cures for diseases such as diabetes or cancer. Scientists also use gene manipulation for technological and environmental purposes.
• Undertake an undergraduate style practical and find out what’s new in genetics.
• Cut fragments of DNA using restriction enzymes and separate them by agarose gel electrophoresis
• Genetically modify bacteria with foreign DNA and observe the expression of a fluorescent protein from a jelly-fish in the bacteria Escherichia coli.
• Learn about what the future holds for the next generation of biologists
